
Can you tell us how you got your start in fashion?
When I was a college student in Boston, I realized that I wanted to express my talent through fashion. After studying F.I.T. in New York, I went back to Japan and worked for Commes des Garçons for five years. After that, I decided to start my own brand.
Can you give us a peek into your creative process?
The first step into my creative process is checking the shape of the toile. After that, it’s the transformation of a 2D fabric into something 3D. It is very exciting.
Who or what is your greatest source of fashion inspiration?
Art. I make art and I go to see art at galleries and museums a lot.
If you could describe the label in five words, what would they be?
Expressing your feelings through fashion.
What kind of music do you listen to when you create?
Sometimes, I prefer not to have any music. But sometimes, I listen to my favourite Japanese diva, Chara.

Rei Kawakubo

Their gentle eyes.

Their commanding atmosphere.
Your favourite colour?
Red and pink
What is your greatest extravagance?
Buying clothes.
What or who is the greatest love of your life?
My daughter Ruri.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
We did an art exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo last year.
What is your present state of mind?
I am currently making technological medical tools that are very fashionable.
