QUINTESSENTIALLY BRITISH

Refined, effortless and confident are the words Tibor Matyas, one half of Golden Lane, uses to describe the brand and we tend to agree…although head-turning and carefully crafted would be words we’d include.  We sat down with the duo for a quick chat about how they got their start in fashion, what it’s like to work collaboratively and what makes each of them tick.

Can you tell us how each of you got your start in fashion?

CHRIS – I always wanted to be in fashion. My dad was a stage designer so that really inspired me. I was super persistent and did a masters at LCF. Before I knew it, I was at Burberry as the Design Assistant under Christopher Bailey. That’s where I met Tibor.

TIBOR – I fell into fashion completely by accident. Although I was always surrounded and fascinated by artistic people (my Mum was an opera singer), I was always more interested in the business aspect. When I moved to London, I sent some of my digital drawings to Burberry and then I guess the rest is history.

Can you give us a peek into your creative process?

CHRIS – A magician never reveals his tricks!

Who or what is your greatest source of fashion inspiration?

CHRIS – We take inspiration from everyone and everything really. Particularly our surroundings.

If you could describe the label in five words, what would they be?

TIBOR – Refined, Effortless, Confident, Original and Quintessentially British.

What is Golden Lane’s point of difference?

TIBOR – We offer unique and individual designs. Multi-function is very important to the modern day woman and to us!

What’s the greatest thing about working collaboratively?

CHRIS – The teamwork aspect of it is really important. We have different skills so it’s great to collaborate.  Working with Tibor teaches me how to compromise.

TIBOR – It’s nice having someone to support you through the lows but share the highs with you too.

What kind of music do you listen to when you create?

TIBOR – I listen to everything from techno to classical and opera.

CHRIS – I listen to synthpop mainly.

Who are your style heroes?

CHRIS – I don’t really have any.

TIBOR – I love watches!

What or who is the greatest love of your life?
